Joseph Leavitt

Joseph was born 23 Mar 1699, the 5th Son of Moses Leavitt and Dorothy Dudley, in Exeter, Rockingham NH. He was the 3rd generation of the family of John Deacon Leavitt.

He was married to Mary Wadleigh in 1727. They had 8 Children, 7 Boys, Nathaniel, Jonathan, Weare, Joseph, Joshua, Moses, Dudley and 1 girl Mary.

This was the first time the name of Weare appears in the Leavitt Family. Weare was the maiden name of Mary Wadleigh mother.

Joseph later married a 2nd wife Sarah Gilman.

Joseph served in the Colonial Wars.

In 1724, He served under Capt. Daniel Ladd in his expediton to Winnipisock Pond (Winnipesaukee Lake).

In 1746 Joseph served with Sargent Joseph Rawlings at Canterbury, NH.

In 1756 with Capt. Isaac Smith's Company in expedition to Crown Point.

Plus many other campaigns.

Joseph owned 1/4 of a sawmill on the Exeter River.

Joseph died on 25 Aug 1792 in Deerfield, Franklin, NH.
