Josiah Leavitt
In 1845 the John Leavitt family moved to Michigan at Cambria, where the family was converted to the Mormon Church. He married Charlotte Lane Christmas Day in 1851 in Cambria, Hillsdale, Michigan at age 29. In "History of Hillsdale, County, Michigan", pp 209-210 a Josiah Levitt is listed as one of the Directors of the Poor for 1852 and 1853, and as Township Clerk in 1856. They journeyed to Utah in 1860 and settled in the Ogden area. Josiah joined the church there on April 18, 1861. Charlotte joined the church one year later. Josiah helped to organize the city government, and served as city councilman in 1869. He later served as chief detective. He assisted in building bridges over the Ogden River and making the first road into Ogden Canyon. He also served as a biship and bishop's counselor. He died at age 75 in Ogden, Utah on June 24, 1896 and is buried in the Odgen City Cemetery.
